Culling Reviewing photos to choose the best frames and reject the rest. See Rating your photos.

RAW Camera image data that needs development to become a viewable image. See Working with RAW photos.

RAW development Rendering a RAW file's sensor data into a viewable image. Seula uses macOS RAW development.

Embedded preview A JPEG stored inside a RAW file by the camera. It opens quickly but can be softer than a developed RAW.

Metadata Information about a photo, such as ratings, camera settings, and orientation. See Metadata and compatibility.

EXIF Capture information saved by a camera, such as shutter speed, aperture, ISO, lens, and capture time. Seula can use EXIF in filenames.

XMP The metadata format Seula uses for ratings, color labels, and flags. Lightroom and Capture One can read it.

XMP sidecar An .xmp file next to a photo that contains its metadata. Always move the sidecar with its photo. See Metadata and compatibility.

Star rating A rating from zero to five stars. See Star ratings.

Color label A color used to group photos. See Color labels.

Flag A Pick, Reject, or unflagged mark. See Pick and Reject flags.

Orientation Metadata that controls how a photo is rotated on screen. Seula changes orientation without re-encoding the image.

Filmstrip A strip of thumbnails in the viewer. See Opening and browsing photos.

Compare A view for inspecting two to four photos side by side. See Comparing and reviewing photos.

Focus Peaking A viewing aid that colors sharp edges. It does not change the photo file. See Comparing and reviewing photos.

AF Area (Experimental) A viewing aid that shows the autofocus area stored in metadata. Camera support and position accuracy vary. See Comparing and reviewing photos.

JPEG+RAW pair One shot stored as a JPEG and RAW file. Seula can show it as a single tile. See Working with RAW photos.

HDR photo A photo whose highlights reach above white, stored as a gain map, PQ, or HLG. Seeing them needs a display with the brightness range for it. See Opening and browsing photos.

Live Photo A phone photo saved as a still and a short video. Seula shows the pair as one item. See Opening and browsing photos.

Multi-page file A file that holds more than one image, such as a scanned TIFF or an MPO stereo pair. See Opening and browsing photos.
