Photo Stacks

Seula can group similar photos taken close together into a stack card. Review a folder one stack at a time and choose the best frames from each stack.

Show and open stacks

Choose View ▸ Show Stacks (⌥⌘K). Seula detects stacks from capture time and, optionally, image content. Detection does not move, rename, or change files.

A stack card shows the photo count and counts of picked, rejected, and unflagged photos.

In the viewer, swiping stays within an open stack. At either end, the photo resists and springs back. If you repeat the same blocked swipe, Seula briefly reveals the filmstrip and emphasizes the current end of the highlighted stack.

A closed stack acts as one item. A star rating, color label, or flag applied to its card applies to every photo in the stack. File actions such as copy, move, export, and Move to Trash apply to the whole stack, and so does Rotate. Print and Rename apply to the photo shown on the card. Open the stack to work with one photo.

Adjust detection in Settings ▸ General ▸ Advanced ▸ Stacks. Seula remembers the Show Stacks choice when you change folders.

Correct a stack

If automatic grouping is wrong, use the stack's contextual menu:

Press ⌘Z to undo a correction. Corrections reset when you open another folder.

Burst Review

Burst Review visits stacks one at a time. You can start it even when Show Stacks is off.

  1. Press ⇧N or choose Image ▸ Burst Review ▸ Review Incomplete Stacks.
  2. Press P for photos to keep and X for photos to reject. Choose Reject Whole Stack if you do not want to keep any.
  3. Choose Confirm and Continue, or press Return. Seula saves the stack's flags as one undoable action and opens the next stack. The button stays dimmed until at least one photo is marked to keep.

Skip for Now postpones a stack. Previous returns to the preceding stack. Esc or Stop Review ends the review. Confirmed flags remain saved; after confirmation, Seula discards only unconfirmed choices in the current stack.

When the review ends, its summary offers Show Picked, Show Unflagged, and Review Skipped. Choose Review All Stacks to include stacks that are already fully flagged.
